The Perfect Moving Checklist
Posted by: Miro | Post date: 13.07.21So, you fell in love with the city of Brighton and Hove. You’ve found your perfect home thanks to Lawton & Dawe Properties and cannot wait to muve in. However, in your haste to relocate, there may be some vital things you overlooked which could cause some problems. To help you avoid these issues, we have compiled a checklist of things you need to get done before your big moving day.
Packing everything
It’s good practice to start packing your stuff into boxes about a month before your moving date.. You can take it one room at a time and leave only the essentials you need to use in your daily activities out. As you pack, you can discard what you do not want anymore and donate the things still in good shape if you would like to. It doesn’t have to be a month though, if you know you are always busy and probably have only the weekends free, then you should plan around your schedule. Also, make sure to label all your boxes.
Ensure all bills are paid
Make sure to check with your Estate agent to see if there is any debt left by the old occupants. You do not want to find yourself inheriting old gas or energy bills. If you are in a rental, you also must inform your landlord the day you’ll be moving out of their building.
Look at removal cost
If you’ve got a lot of belongings and you have decided to move your furniture too, then it would be best for you to look at several removal companies and compare their pricing before your moving date approaches. This will help you make a more informed decision and you will be able to find the cheapest and most efficient removal company.
Ensure all post is redirected
Ensure you redirect all your post to your new address. You do not want to lose any important letter or have your bills sent to an address you are no longer residing at. To avoid going into unknown debts, remembering to redirect your post is of top priority. You can redirect your post from the post office from £33.39. You can apply from six months before moving and up to six after moving. While on this, you may want to send your friends and family emails telling them the date you will be moving and the address of your new place also.
Investigate your new area
Usually, it is a good idea to check out your potential new area before making any buying decisions. This will save you from a lot of stress if you find out something unpleasant about the area that you do not feel comfortable enough with. Pop along to the local shops or coffee shops to see who your new neighbours might be, and maybe test out the local pub! But, if you have already settled the payments and signed the documents, you can still go around investigating your new environment. Talk to some neighbours and look around.
Contact your utility supplier
Before moving, you need to contact your utility suppliers to let them know the date you will be moving out of your home. You need to shut down your gas, electricity and your broadband supply after you leave for your new home. You should let them know in good time when you will be leaving. You also need to inform your broadband supplier when and where you will be moving to two weeks ahead of your moving date so that they have enough time to set up a connection in your new home.
Now that you have finally moved to your new home, you need to remember something important, registering to vote. Registering to vote is key to having your say in the local and wider community!
In conclusion, it is good practice that you make a list of all the important things you need to do before and after the moving day. You could type them on your phone’s notepad, or any other checklist app such as Microsoft To Do and add to the list as you remember anything new. You want your move to be as stress free as possible, so you can enjoy your new home!
