THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY
The personal story of Lawton & Dawe’s Managing Director, Lucy Dawe and her Everest trek (April 2016)
When I submitted my application to trek to Everest Base Camp I didn’t really give it too much thought, which is typical of me when it comes to fundraising for charity. I just say yes and then think about it afterwards – normally a few days prior to the event! This was no different, I was still planning on buying kit the day I flew out to Kathmandu.
Longer lets for tenants and landlords are in higher demand. It used to be all about getting on the housing ladder here in the UK. What we are now seeing is a huge increase in people taking on renting as the best long term option. The decline in home ownership, especially for first time buyers, is giving way to opinion shifting in favour of long-term renting. This is not just for single professionals but those with young families too.The freedom that renting gives to tenants is an attractive option for those who might want to test out new areas to live. Longer tenancies also provide more continuity and security for tenants. It gives people the chance to rent a property that they might not necessarily purchase, whether a period cottage or a modern penthouse. The varied choice of properties on offer is encouraging new people into the private rented sector.
Lucy Dawe and her ever-expanding team at Lawton & Dawe are excited to the point of being speechless. This is unusual because Lucy is never speechless. Activity in the L&D offices has reached fever pitch and Spike and Panda, the company mascots and Boss Dogs, are wandering what it’s all about.
Everyone’s excited because the countdown has begun and it’s only a week till the brand new L&D offices at 99 Portland Road, Hove, officially start trading. AND there’ll be a very special announcement at the launch party this Friday evening for invited guests.
The new offices have been expertly designed by Julie Hall Hall of JHH Designs with superb office furniture from Mocha Furniture. Sleek, streamlined and colour-coordinated, the team is looking forward to working in their new surroundings in Hove.
“We’ve worked extremely hard to get where we are today,” says MD Lucy Dawe, “We were awarded Letting Agent of the Year last year so it’s only fitting we grow and develop. Being in Hove will give us a central base along the coastal strip from which to expand, as we’ve been increasingly letting more and more homes in the Brighton and Hove area for a while. We’ll still be in Shoreham though, which is our gateway to West Sussex and beyond.”
So the furniture is in, the decoration is done, the IT works, the phones are on, dog bowls are down. It just leaves this week to make sure there’s enough Prosecco for the party!
Lucy would like to express sincere thanks to the following for their tireless hard work:

The office is looking great and we’re settling in nicely (not that there’s been anytime to sit down since our opening party last week. It’s been all go and in a very good way!)
We’re still in celebratory mood with our new office in Hove and word is spreading of our new introductory offer. We’re very happy to announce we are now (drumroll…..) SELLING as well as LETTING.
“We’ve been letting in Brighton and Hove for some time now and it’s a very natural expansion for us to meet client demand with sales too. We really appreciate our clients’ feedback and recommending us on to others. The high value we put on client satisfaction is what has helped us grow our local business further.” Lucy Dawe, Managing Director.
